Africa International Club Rwanda (AIC Rwanda) encourages people from around the world and from all walks of life, to engage with one another as friends and neighbours, and to participate in locally arranged social events together.
AIC Rwanda is a fun loving group of people from all over the world, whose shared experience of living in Rwanda brings them together. Making friends, supporting each other and learning about our different perspectives, provide a naturally shared experience of living in Kigali. From September to June, each month, we come together over coffee, at social gatherings or outings all organized for members to enjoy.
History of AIC Rwanda
The club was originally a French speaking started by expat ladies in 1988. As the club membership evolved and grew, it became an Anglo speaking club and added a charitable element as social events generated funds. From this, funds were donated to small grassroot projects within the community. Membership opened to both expats and the local community to help stage events that turned into major calendar fundraising events in Kigali.
Past BIG events – every year two big events were organized: the Christmas Bazaar and the Food Fair which took an enormous amount of planning and attracted very large numbers, 1,000+ people usually. We had many volunteers and everyone pitched in, working as a team to raise as much as we can for our small grants fund.
Sponsorships – In the past, all of the money raised went to support small local projects. These projects tell their own stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things for others in need; orphans, street kids, refugees, children and adults with disabilities, victims of abuse and chronic illnesses, literacy & other education programs, development and self sufficiency programs, environmental awareness, water projects. Amazing work has been done and AIC Rwanda was humbled and blessed to play a small but important role supported by the generosity of our own members and sponsors.
All the hard work of the past was lightened by fun and laughter as well as the knowledge it was for very worthy causes. Our sponsors and donors agreed as we had many who shared our desire to help others. However, since COVID 19, the small funding committee struggled due to lack of funds, and as of 2023, large events and project funding have been paused for the foreseeable future.
Current Activities for Members
